    Emily V. Gordon (born May 3, 1979) is an American writer, producer, and podcast host. She gained recognition for co-writing the critically acclaimed 2017 romantic comedy film The Big Sick, which was based on her relationship with her husband and frequent collaborator, comic Kumail Nanjiani. The film earned them an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Prior to her writing career, Gordon worked as a family and couples therapist. She has also co-created the live show The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, written for television, authored a book, and contributed to various online and print publications. Gordon was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and holds degrees in psychology and couples and family counseling.
