Essie Davis Biography
Essie Davis, born Esther Davis on January 19, 1970, is an Australian actress and singer. She is best known for her roles as Phryne Fisher in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and its film adaptation, Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears, as well as her portrayal of Amelia Vanek in The Babadook. Davis has also appeared as Lady Crane in season six of Game of Thrones, Sister Iphigenia in Lambs of God, and Ellen Kelly in True History of the Kelly Gang. She was born and raised in Hobart, Tasmania, and received her education at Clarence High School, Rosny College, the University of Tasmania, and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. Davis began her acting career with the Bell Shakespeare company, where she played Juliet in the 1993 production of Romeo and Juliet.
