Frances Haugen (born 1983 or 1984) is an American product manager, data engineer, and scientist, and whistleblower known for her disclosure of tens of thousands of Facebook's internal documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission and The Wall Street Journal in 2021. She has testified before various governmental bodies, including the United States Senate Commerce Committee's Sub-Committee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security, the Parliament of the United Kingdom, and the European Parliament. Haugen grew up in Iowa City, Iowa, and attended Horn Elementary, Northwest Junior High School, and Iowa City West High School. She studied electrical and computer engineering at the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering.
