    Fred Berman Biography
    Fred Jean Berman, known professionally as Fred Berman, was a Jewish American abstract artist. Born on November 3, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Berman was the youngest of four children. He grew up in a family of Russian Jewish immigrants and developed a passion for art and chess from an early age. Due to a possible heart condition, Berman focused his energies on his artistic pursuits. He became an accomplished chess player, winning the junior Milwaukee city-wide championship for four consecutive years. In 1943, he worked for the architecture firm Eschweiler & Eschweiler, which influenced his later artistic ventures in architecture. Berman earned a bachelor's degree from the Milwaukee State Teachers College and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the faculty of the Layton School of Art in 1949, a prestigious art school in the United States.
