Freddie Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, was a British singer and songwriter. He gained worldwide fame as the lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. Known for his flamboyant stage presence and four-octave vocal range, Mercury is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music. His theatrical style and artistic direction influenced the band's success. Mercury was born in Zanzibar to Parsi-Indian parents and later moved to England due to the Zanzibar Revolution. In 1970, he formed Queen with Brian May and Roger Taylor. Mercury wrote many of Queen's hits, such as "Killer Queen", "Bohemian Rhapsody", and "We Are the Champions".
