Frederick Rolf Biography
Frederick Rolf (born Rolf Günther Friedrichs on August 14, 1926) is a German-born American actor and director known for his work in British and American film, theater, television, and opera. He escaped Nazi Germany on a Kindertransport and settled in England, attending the City of Bath Boys' School. During World War II, he worked in the BBC’s European Service. Rolf began his acting career in 1946 and later changed his name to Frederick Rolf. After serving his apprenticeship in regional theaters, he emigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen in 1953. Rolf has had a prolific career in American theater for over six decades, including appearances on Broadway in productions such as Saint Joan and Time Remembered.
