Gavin MacLeod (born Allan George See; February 28, 1931 – May 29, 2021) was an American actor known for his roles as Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Captain Merrill Stubing on The Love Boat. He began his career in films in 1957 and later achieved television success on McHale's Navy (1962–1964). MacLeod appeared in movies like The Sword of Ali Baba (1965), A Man Called Gannon (1968), The Thousand Plane Raid (1969), and Kelly's Heroes (1970). In addition to his acting work, he was a Christian television host, author, and guest on various talk and religious programs. MacLeod embraced evangelical Christianity in 1984.
