Gena Rowlands, born June 19, 1930, is an American retired actress with a career spanning nearly seven decades in film, stage, and television. She is recognized as one of the last living actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Rowlands has received numerous accolades, including four Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. She is best known for her collaborations with her late husband, actor-director John Cassavetes, in films such as A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and Gloria (1980), both of which earned her Academy Award nominations. Rowlands also delivered notable performances in Woody Allen's Another Woman (1988) and her son Nick Cassavetes's film, The Notebook (2004). In 2021, Richard Brody of The New Yorker hailed her as 'the most important and original movie actor of the past half century-plus.' Rowlands was honored with an Honorary Academy Award in 2015 for her exceptional screen performances.
