Geoffrey Cantor
Geoffrey Cantor, born in 1943, is an Emeritus Professor of the History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Leeds. He is also an Honorary Senior Research Associate at UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies at University College London. Cantor is known for his research on Michael Faraday, the wave theory of light, and the responses of the Quaker and Jewish religions to science. He co-delivered the 1995-1996 Gifford Lecture at the University of Glasgow with John Hedley Brooke, which resulted in the publication of 'Reconstructing Nature: The Engagement of Science and Religion' in 1998. Cantor has also contributed to the SciPer Project, focusing on the popularization of science in 19th-century periodicals. He has lectured on this subject at the Royal Institution in 2005. Cantor's notable work includes the book 'Quakers, Jews, and Science: Religious Responses to Modernity and the Sciences in Britain, 1650-1900', published by Oxford University Press in 2005.
