George Guidall

George Guidall (born June 7, 1938) is a prolific audiobook narrator and theatre actor. With over 1,270 audiobooks recorded as of November 2014, he holds a record in the industry. Originally from New Jersey, Guidall's family name is Shapiro, but he adopted the stage name Guidall, a variation of his Hebrew name Gedalyah. While his father and brothers pursued careers in the medical field, Guidall chose theater. He obtained a master's degree in social work in his 50s and worked as a counselor during the day while acting at night. Guidall discovered audiobook narration through a fellow actor and currently resides in White Plains, New York. He records his narrations in a small basement studio in Irvington, New York, taking approximately 3 to 4 days to complete each book. Some notable works he has narrated include Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow in 1986 and a new recording in 2014.
