George Plimpton

George Ames Plimpton (March 18, 1927 – September 25, 2003) was an American writer known for his sports writing and for co-founding The Paris Review. He gained recognition for his distinctive patrician demeanor and accent. Plimpton was also renowned for his 'participatory journalism,' actively involving himself in various professional sporting events, acting in a Western film, performing a comedy act in Las Vegas, and playing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Born in New York City, Plimpton spent his childhood on Manhattan's Upper East Side and summers in West Hills, Huntington, Suffolk County on Long Island. He was the son of Francis T. P. Plimpton and grandson of Frances Taylor Pearsons and George Arthur Plimpton.
