George Steinbrenner Biography
George Michael Steinbrenner III (July 4, 1930 – July 13, 2010) was an American businessman and the principal owner and managing partner of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees from 1973 until his death. Under his ownership, the Yankees won seven World Series championships and 11 American League pennants, making him the longest-serving owner in club history. Steinbrenner was known for his outspokenness and controversial role in driving up player salaries. Beyond his involvement in baseball, he also had a stake in the Great Lakes and Gulf Coast shipping industry. Steinbrenner earned the nickname 'the Boss' due to his hands-on approach, although in later years, he mostly entrusted baseball operations to others. He passed away in 2010.
