George Wallace Biography
George Corley Wallace Jr. (August 25, 1919 – September 13, 1998) was an American politician and four-term governor of Alabama. Known for his staunch segregationist and populist views, Wallace advocated for industrial development, low taxes, and trade schools during his time as governor. He ran for the U.S. presidency three times as a Democratic Party candidate and once as an American Independent Party candidate, though he was unsuccessful in each attempt. Wallace opposed desegregation and supported the policies of 'Jim Crow' during the Civil Rights Movement. Born in Clio, Alabama, he attended the University of Alabama School of Law and served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, before entering politics as a state representative and judge.
