Georgia Engel (1948-2019) was an American actress known for her roles in popular sitcoms. She gained recognition for her portrayal of Georgette Franklin Baxter in The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1972-1977), Pat MacDougall in Everybody Loves Raymond (2003-2005), and Mamie Sue in Hot in Cleveland (2012-2015). With a career spanning several decades, Engel received five Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a BAFTA nomination. Born in Washington, D.C., she graduated from the Academy of the Washington Ballet and earned her theater degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Engel started her acting career in New York City, appearing in off-Broadway and Broadway productions.
