Geraldine Fitzgerald Biography
Geraldine Mary Fitzgerald (November 24, 1913 – July 17, 2005) was an Irish stage, film, and television actress. She was born in Greystones, County Wicklow, and studied painting at the Dublin School of Art. Fitzgerald began her acting career at Dublin's Gate Theatre in 1932 and found success in British films like The Mill on the Floss and Turn of the Tide. In 1938, she moved to New York and made her American stage debut on Broadway. Fitzgerald went on to appear in numerous Broadway productions, earning Tony Award nominations. She also had a successful film and television career, receiving an Academy Award nomination and an Emmy Award. Fitzgerald is recognized as one of Ireland's greatest film actors, listed at number 30 on The Irish Times' ranking.
