Gordon Jump Biography
Alexander Gordon Jump (April 1, 1932 – September 22, 2003) was an American actor known for his roles in various sitcoms. He gained fame as Arthur 'Big Guy' Carlson in the series WKRP in Cincinnati (1978–1982) and its spin-off The New WKRP in Cincinnati (1991–1993). Jump also appeared as Chief Tinkler in the sitcom Soap (1977–1978) and portrayed Mr. Horton in a two-part episode of Diff'rent Strokes (1983). In addition to his television work, Jump became well-known as the 'Maytag repairman' in Maytag commercials from 1989 until his retirement in 2003. Born and raised in Centerville, Ohio, Jump studied broadcasting and communications at Kansas State University before beginning his career in the broadcasting industry.
