Gordon Tootoosis Biography
Gordon Tootoosis (October 25, 1941 – July 5, 2011) was a Canadian actor of Cree and Stoney descent. He was a founding member of the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company and was known for his commitment to preserving his culture and telling his people's stories. Tootoosis served as a leading Cree activist, social worker, and band chief. He offered encouragement, support, and training to aspiring Aboriginal actors. Tootoosis lent his voice to characters in the movies Open Season and Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run, portraying Sheriff Gordy. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded membership in the Order of Canada in 2004.
