Grant Geissman is an American jazz guitarist and Emmy-nominated composer. Born on April 13, 1953, in Berkeley, California, he grew up in San Jose. Geissman began his musical journey at the age of 11, taking guitar lessons from Mrs. Allen before studying under local musicians such as Geoff Levin, Don Cirallo, Bud Dimock, and Terry Saunders. Encouraged to explore jazz standards and improvisation, he played in rock bands and jazz groups while attending high school. Geissman furthered his education by studying with avant-garde guitarist Jerry Hahn, who introduced him to influential artists like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman. With a career spanning since 1976, Geissman has recorded extensively for various labels and has contributed his guitar skills to the theme for Monk and other TV series.
