Grant-Lee Phillips

Grant-Lee Phillips is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, known for his work with Grant Lee Buffalo in the 1990s and his solo career. Born on September 1, 1963, in Stockton, California, Phillips began playing guitar in his early teens. He moved to Los Angeles at 19 and funded his evening classes at UCLA by working as a roofer. Phillips dropped out of college and formed bands, eventually teaming up with old friend Jeffrey Clark. In the late 1980s, he lived on campus at CalArts and immersed himself in the school's World Music program. Phillips also appeared as the town troubadour in the TV show Gilmore Girls.
