Gregory Efthimios Louganis (born January 29, 1960) is an American Olympic diver. He is best known for winning gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics in diving events. Louganis is the only man and the second diver in Olympic history to sweep the diving events in consecutive Olympic Games. Born in El Cajon, California, Louganis was adopted by Frances and Peter Louganis and raised in California. He is of Samoan and Greek descent. Louganis began taking dance, acrobatics, and gymnastics classes at a young age. In recent years, he reunited with his biological father in 1984 and his biological mother in 2017 through DNA tests and information from his half-siblings.
