Gwyneth Powell
Gwyneth Powell (5 July 1946 – 8 September 2022) was an English actress known for her portrayal of headmistress Bridget McClusky in the BBC television series Grange Hill from 1980 to 1991. Born on 5 July 1946 in Levenshulme, Manchester, Powell attended Cheadle County Grammar School for Girls before training as a teacher at Goldsmiths, University of London. However, she chose to pursue a career in acting and began working in repertory theatre. Powell's first major television role was in the 1971 LWT series The Guardians. She went on to appear in various television dramas before her memorable role in Grange Hill. Powell's portrayal of the 'firm but fair' headmistress earned her recognition.
