Harry Greenwood
Harry Greenwood (25 November 1881 – 5 May 1948) was a British Army officer and recipient of the Victoria Cross. Born in Victoria Barracks, Windsor, Greenwood served as an acting Lieutenant Colonel in the 9th Battalion, the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, during the First World War. His courageous act took place on 23 October 1918 at Ovillers, France, where he single-handedly rushed an enemy machine gun position, killing the crew. He later took another machine gun post with the help of two runners. Despite being almost surrounded by the enemy, Greenwood repulsed their attacks. His bravery earned him the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy.
