Helen Slater is an American actress and singer-songwriter born on December 15, 1963, in Bethpage, New York. Her parents, Alice Joan and Gerald Slater, divorced in 1974. She attended Great Neck South High School and graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in 1982. Slater gained fame for her role as Supergirl in the 1984 film of the same name. She has also appeared in movies such as The Legend of Billie Jean (1985), Ruthless People (1986), The Secret of My Success (1987), and City Slickers (1991). Additionally, Slater has worked on television and stage projects throughout her career. Despite a common misconception, she is not related to actor Christian Slater.
