Hinton Battle Biography
Hinton Battle (born November 29, 1956) is an American actor, singer, dancer, and dance instructor. He is best known for his role as the Scarecrow in the stage version of The Wiz. Battle has won three Tony Awards, all in the category of Featured Actor in a Musical. He was born in Neubrücke, Hoppstädten-Weiersbach, West Germany, and raised in Washington, D.C., and New York City. At the age of nine, his talent in dance became apparent and he received a scholarship to The School of American Ballet. Battle's career began in 1974 when he joined the cast of The Wiz, which later moved to Broadway.
