Hy Anzell Biography
Hy Anzell (September 7, 1923 – August 23, 2003) was a Yiddish-speaking American actor. He originated the role of 'Mr. Mushnik' in the original off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors. Anzell appeared in numerous films and television programs, including several directed by Woody Allen such as Bananas and Annie Hall, where he played Uncle Joey Nichols. He was also part of the original 1976 Broadway cast of Checking Out. Anzell passed away at the age of 79 from natural causes. He was a Jewish actor who made significant contributions to both stage and screen.
