Ian Dury (12 May 1942 – 27 March 2000) was a British singer, songwriter, and actor. He gained prominence in the late 1970s as the lead singer and lyricist of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and previously with Kilburn and the High Roads. Born in Harrow, West London, Dury's early years were spent in Harrow Weald. His father was a bus driver and former boxer, while his mother was a health visitor with Cornish and Irish roots. Dury's music career flourished during the punk and new wave era of rock music. He also ventured into acting, appearing in movies and TV shows alongside his musical pursuits.
