Ian McElhinney Biography
Ian McElhinney is a Northern Irish actor and director, born on 19 August 1948. With a career spanning over forty years, he has appeared in numerous television series, including Taggart, Hornblower, Cold Feet, and The Tudors. McElhinney's most notable roles include Barristan Selmy in Game of Thrones, Morgan Monroe in The Fall, and Granda Joe in Derry Girls. Before pursuing acting, he studied international affairs at Brandeis University and worked as a teacher at Goole Academy in Yorkshire. McElhinney began his professional acting career at the age of 30, starring as Bill Sikes in a theatre production of Oliver!. He is married to playwright and actress Marie Jones and they have three sons. They currently reside in Belfast.
