James Newell Osterberg Jr., known professionally as Iggy Pop, is an American singer, musician, songwriter, actor, and radio broadcaster. He gained fame as the vocalist and lyricist of the proto-punk band The Stooges, formed in 1967. Iggy Pop, often called the 'Godfather of Punk,' has been a significant figure in the punk rock movement. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 as a member of The Stooges. Pop received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 for his solo work. Known for his raw and aggressive style, Iggy Pop's performances were notorious for their confrontational nature, often involving acts of self-mutilation. He had a close and enduring friendship with David Bowie throughout their careers.
