Ilhan Omar is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. Born on October 4, 1982, she has been serving as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district since 2019. Prior to her role in Congress, Omar was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019, representing part of Minneapolis. As a politician, she has been vocal about various issues, including advocating for a $15 minimum wage, universal healthcare, student loan debt forgiveness, the protection of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Additionally, Omar has been critical of Israel, supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and denouncing its settlement policy and military campaigns in the occupied Palestinian territories.
