Isabel Toledo

Isabel Toledo (April 9, 1960 – August 26, 2019) was a Cuban-American fashion designer known for her meticulous craftsmanship and elegant designs. Born Maria Isabel Izquierdo in Camajuaní, Cuba, she moved to the United States at the age of eight and settled in West New York, New Jersey. Toledo attended Memorial High School and later studied painting, ceramics, and fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design in New York City. She started her career as an intern under Diana Vreeland at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Toledo married artist Ruben Toledo in 1984 and gained recognition for her sophisticated simplicity in the fashion industry. She passed away from breast cancer in Manhattan.
