Jaime Augusto Richards III, known as J. August Richards, is an American actor of Afro-Panamanian descent. Born on August 28, 1973, he is best known for his roles as Charles Gunn on the television series Angel and Mike Peterson/Deathlok on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Richards grew up in Bladensburg, Maryland, and attended the Visual and Performing Arts program at Suitland High School. He later earned a scholarship to attend the USC School of Dramatic Arts. Richards's acting career took off when he was cast as Vanessa's boyfriend Roy on The Cosby Show. He has also made appearances on shows like The Practice, Chicago Hope, Any Day Now, and Nash Bridges.
