James Bamford (born September 15, 1946) is an American author, journalist, and documentary producer. He is well-known for his extensive writing about United States intelligence agencies, with a particular focus on the National Security Agency (NSA). The New York Times has referred to Bamford as 'the nation's premier journalist on the subject of the National Security Agency,' and The New Yorker has recognized him as 'the NSA's chief chronicler.' Bamford has taught at the University of California, Berkeley as a distinguished visiting professor and has contributed to various publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, and Harper's. He has received accolades for his reporting, including a National Magazine Award for Reporting in 2006.
