James Edward Burrows, also known as Jim 'Jimmy' Burrows, is an American television director born on December 30, 1940. With a career spanning from the 1970s to the present, Burrows has directed over 50 television pilots and co-created the iconic series Cheers. He is the founder of 3 Sisters Entertainment, a joint venture with NBC known for producing successful shows like Will & Grace and Caroline in the City. In 2016, he reached a milestone by directing his 1,000th TV episode on NBC's Crowded. Born in Los Angeles to a Jewish family, Burrows is the son of Ruth and Abe Burrows, a renowned composer, director, and writer. He attended New York's High School of Music & Art before graduating from Oberlin College and the Yale School of Drama's graduate program.
