James Cable
Sir James Eric Sydney Cable (15 November 1920 – 27 September 2001) was a British diplomat and naval strategic thinker. He gained recognition as an author for his series of works on gunboat diplomacy published between 1971 and 1994. Cable served as an officer in the British Army during the Second World War. Born in 1920, he was the son of a member of the Consular Service and attended Stowe School and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. After the war, Cable joined the Diplomatic Service in 1947. His contributions to naval strategy made him one of the most influential thinkers in the field in the last half-century.
