James Doohan

James Montgomery Doohan (March 3, 1920 – July 20, 2005) was a Canadian actor and author. He is best known for his role as Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott in the Star Trek franchise. Doohan's portrayal of the Scottish chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise became an iconic part of the series, inspiring many fans to pursue technical careers. He also contributed behind the scenes, helping develop the Klingon and Vulcan languages. Prior to his acting career, Doohan served in the 14th Field Artillery Regiment during World War II, where he saw combat in Europe, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy. After the war, he gained extensive experience in radio and television before landing his role in Star Trek.
