James Garner (April 7, 1928 – July 19, 2014) was an American actor known for his leading roles in over 50 theatrical films. Some notable movies he appeared in include The Great Escape (1963), The Americanization of Emily (1964), Cash McCall (1960), and Victor/Victoria (1982). Garner also starred in several television series, including Maverick in the 1950s and The Rockford Files in the 1970s. He received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in Murphy's Romance (1985). Garner's career spanned several decades, and he remained popular well into the 21st century. He was regarded as one of the most respected actors in the industry.
