James McNew is an American musician known for his work as the bass player for the rock band Yo La Tengo. He joined the band in 1992 and has been a core member ever since. Prior to his time with Yo La Tengo, McNew was a member of the band Christmas, appearing on their third album Vortex. In addition to his work with Yo La Tengo, McNew also has a solo side project called Dump. Outside of music, he gained attention for his role as a parking lot attendant in Charlottesville, Virginia, which was highlighted in the documentary The Parking Lot Movie. McNew's contributions to the music industry have earned him a dedicated following and critical acclaim.
