James Whitmore Biography
James Whitmore (October 1, 1921 – February 6, 2009) was an American actor known for his versatile performances. Born in White Plains, New York, he attended Amherst Central High School and the Choate School on a football scholarship. After a football injury, he turned to acting and became a member of the Yale Dramatic Society. Whitmore received numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Golden Globe Award, a Grammy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Theatre World Award, and a Tony Award. He was also nominated for two Academy Awards. With a major in government from Yale University, Whitmore initially planned on becoming a lawyer.
