Janet Yellen

Janet Louise Yellen is an American economist and the 78th United States Secretary of the Treasury, serving since January 26, 2021. Prior to this role, she was the 15th Chair of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018. Yellen made history as the first woman to hold both positions and also led the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, she graduated from Brown University in 1967 and earned a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University in 1971. Yellen has an extensive academic background, having taught at Harvard University and the London School of Economics, and is currently a professor emeritus at the Haas School of Business and the University of California, Berkeley.
