Jann Simon Wenner (born January 7, 1946) is an American businessman and co-founder of Rolling Stone, a popular culture magazine. He is also the former owner of Men's Journal magazine. During his time at the University of California, Berkeley, Wenner actively participated in the Free Speech Movement. Alongside his mentor Ralph J. Gleason, Wenner established Rolling Stone in 1967. Throughout his career, he co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and started various other publications. Wenner has faced controversy regarding Hall of Fame eligibility favoritism, his relationship breakdown with journalist Hunter S. Thompson, and accusations of biased reviews in his magazine. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he comes from a secular Jewish family.
