Jay Novello Biography
Jay Novello, born Michael Romano on August 22, 1904, was an American radio, film, and television character actor. With a career spanning 47 years, Novello began acting in the 1930s, starting off as a radio character. Notable radio roles include Jack Packard on I Love a Mystery, Captain Sam Sabaaya on Rocky Jordan, and Judge Glenn Hunter on One Man's Family. He also appeared on popular radio shows such as Escape, Crime Classics, and Lux Radio Theater. In films, Novello often portrayed pompous professionals or various ethnic characters like Italians, Spaniards, or Mexicans. A memorable film appearance was in the 1945 Laurel and Hardy comedy The Bullfighters. Novello passed away on September 2, 1982.
