Jay Robinson Biography
Jay Robinson (April 14, 1930 – September 27, 2013) was an American actor known for his character roles. He gained popularity for his portrayal of Emperor Caligula in the films The Robe (1953) and Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954). Born in New York City, Robinson discovered his interest in acting through his mother's dance career. Starting in summer stock theatre, he progressed to the Broadway stage, appearing in Shakespearean plays by the age of 19. Robinson's first film role was as Emperor Caligula in The Robe (1953), which he reprised in the sequel. He also played the boss of Warren Beatty's character in Shampoo (1975).
