Jess Oppenheimer (November 11, 1913 – December 27, 1988) was an American radio and television writer, producer, and director. He is best known as the producer and head writer of the CBS sitcom I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball referred to Oppenheimer as the creative force behind the show, and he was responsible for running the whole production. Oppenheimer was born into a secular Jewish family in San Francisco and showed early signs of giftedness. During his time at Stanford University, he became fascinated with radio and spent his spare time at a local radio station. This passion ultimately led him to a successful career in the entertainment industry.
