James Calvin Rollins, also known as J-Roll, is a retired American professional baseball shortstop who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies (2000–2014), Los Angeles Dodgers (2015), and Chicago White Sox (2016). Born on November 27, 1978, in Alameda, California, Rollins was drafted by the Phillies in 1996 and made his MLB debut on September 17, 2000. Known for his exceptional defense, he became the Phillies' leadoff hitter in 2001 and held the role for nearly a decade. Rollins was a three-time All-Star and holds the record for the longest hitting streak in Phillies' history, spanning 38 games from the end of the 2005 season to the start of the 2006 season.
