Joanna Caroline Newsom is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and musician. Born on January 18, 1982, in Northern California, Newsom received classical harp training in her youth and initially joined the San Francisco-based indie band the Pleased as a keyboardist. In 2002, she independently released two EPs before signing with Drag City, an independent label. Her debut album, The Milk-Eyed Mender, was released in 2004 to critical acclaim and gained her a devoted underground following. Newsom's subsequent albums, including Ys (2006), Have One on Me (2010), and Divers (2015), showcased her unique style of progressive folk and featured her distinctive harp playing. In addition to her musical career, Newsom has also made appearances in films and television shows.
