Joe Strummer (21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002) was a British singer-songwriter and musician best known as the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of punk rock band the Clash. With the Clash, he achieved success in both the UK and the US, and their music had a significant impact on rock music, particularly alternative rock. Strummer's career also included stints with the 101ers, the Latino Rockabilly War, the Mescaleros, and the Pogues, as well as solo music.
