John Calvin
John Calvin (Jehan Cauvin; Jean Calvin ; 10 July 1509 – 27 May 1564) was a French theologian, pastor, and reformer. He played a key role in the Protestant Reformation in Geneva. Calvinism, a system of Christian theology, was developed by Calvin and includes doctrines such as predestination and God's absolute sovereignty in salvation. Calvin's ideas were influenced by Augustinian and other Christian traditions. His works, including the Institutes of the Christian Religion, were highly influential and he engaged in correspondence with other reformers like Philipp Melanchthon and Heinrich Bullinger. Calvin's teachings have shaped various Congregational, Reformed, and Presbyterian churches worldwide.
