John Chancellor
John William Chancellor (1927-1996) was an American journalist who is considered a pioneer in television news. He spent most of his career with NBC News, serving as the anchor of the NBC Nightly News from 1970 to 1982. Chancellor continued to provide editorials and commentaries for NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw until 1993. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he dropped out of high school, enlisted in the Army during World War II, and later attended the University of Illinois. Chancellor began his career as a reporter and copy boy for Chicago newspapers before transitioning to television. He gained national prominence as a correspondent on NBC's evening newscast, the Huntley-Brinkley Report.
