John Alec Entwistle (9 October 1944 - 27 June 2002) was an English musician known for his role as the bassist for the rock band the Who. He was nicknamed 'The Ox' and 'Thunderfingers' for his exceptional skills. Entwistle was the only member of the band to have formal musical training and also contributed backing and occasional lead vocals. His career with the Who spanned over four decades. With his unique pentatonic lead lines and treble-rich sound, Entwistle is considered one of the greatest bassists of all time. In 1990, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Who. Born in Chiswick, London, Entwistle had a profound impact on the music industry.
