Bonisile John Kani, born on November 30, 1942, is a prominent South African actor, author, director, and playwright. He is widely recognized for his notable roles in various Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Black Panther (2018), where he portrayed the character T'Chaka. Kani also appeared as Rafiki in the 2019 remake of The Lion King and Colonel Ulenga in the Netflix film Murder Mystery (2019). Additionally, he is known for his involvement in Athol Fugard's anti-apartheid play, Sizwe Banzi Is Dead, which he co-wrote. Kani suffered a traumatic incident that resulted in the loss of his left eye, and he now wears a prosthesis.
